The weekend of the trial is also the weekend for the Ryder Cup international golf tournament which this year is being played at Hazeltine in Chaska MN, near the trial location. As a result, hotel rooms are either impossible to get or rediculously expensive east and south of Gale Woods, all the way back to Minneapolis. Therefore, we have had to be creative in finding accomodations for those of you who do not want to camp. Please see some of the options below.
The Voyageurs Environmental Center is right opposite the Handler's Entrance to Gale Woods. They have two new cabins available for $200/night if you are booking Thu, Fri, Sat Each cabin has 2 twin beds and 7 bunks. They have bathroom facilities as well. You can drive to the cabin to load/unload but the parking area is about 200 yards from the cabin. Dogs are not allowed in the cabins but could stay in vehicles or in crates on the porch. They would need to be leashed on the property. Contact Keith Haslin 952.303.2060. With 2 or three people sharing, it will be cheaper and closer than hotels and just like being back at camp.
The Grand Stay Hotel Delano MN has rooms for $120/night and is 20 minutes west of Gale Woods. It's a relatively new hotel and is pet friendly. They also have a location in Chaska MN.
The Country Inns by Carlson in Buffalo MN is about 30 minutes away and rooms range from $110 - $130 per night. They also have a location in Chanhassen MN.
The AmericInn in Waconia is around $100/night and like the other two is pet friendly
These are probably your two best bets for that weekend.
Thanks to Claudia for this one. There is a place in Buffalo MN called Ken's RV Rental. Which will rent a trailer with slideouts and sleeping for 8 - 10 and deliver it to Gale Woods for $250 for the weekend (cheaper than a hotel). They'll probably want a sizeable deposit and there would be a delivery/pickup charge but even when it's not Ryder Cup weekend, the cheapest hotel room you would get in this area is ~$125/night so this is a pretty good deal.
Call Ken's RV Rental 7655 28th St SE, Buffalo MN (763) 477-5269. I rented from these guys in 2016 and Ken's a pretty decent guy. He doesn't take credit cards so cheque well enough in advance for it to clear before the trial, or cash. He'll want a $500 deposit which he'll return in cash when you bring back the unit. The campers are pretty new and rent for between $200 and $300 for the weekend. You'll need to provide your own bedding, dishes, pots/pans, coffee makers etc.
